Military confrontation between the two neighbouring countries Armenia and Azerbaijan has started for the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh. As per latest reports 16 personnel were killed, while nearly 100 were wounded. The local authorities have reported that region’s of Stepanakert, Martaket and Martuni was hit by the shelling. While Armenian Defense Military spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisyan reported that the area near town of Vardenis was hit by the Azerbaijani shelling.
The Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has imposed martial law in some regions and called for a curfew in major cities. Addressing the nation through television, president Aliyev said, “there are losses among the Azerbaijani forces and the civilian population as a result of the Armenian bombardment” and also claimed that, “many units of the enemy’s military equipment have been destroyed”.
