Government of India has informed that according to the two Pan-India studies on Genome of SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) conducted by ICMR and the Department of Biotechnology, the genome of the deadly corona virus is stable in India. The reports suggested that the virus has shown no major mutations as; any major change in the mutation of the virus could obstruct the development process of the vaccines.
After a review meeting conducted by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister’s Office said that in India three vaccines are in advanced stages of development. Two out of them are in Phase II trials and the single one is undergoing the Phase III trial. The study also suggested that India is among the top three nations lead by US and followed by the UK to have the geometric mean of 3.27 per cent, 3.59 per cent, and 5.39 per cent respectively in the mutation similarity score.
