Covid-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus is probable to become seasonal in the countries with temperate climates as suggested by the new review that was published in Frontiers in Public Health and it is possible only when the crowd attains the herd immunity against it. Until then, it will remain circulating across the seasons.
This clearly shows the importance of public health measures that are required to be taken at present to control the situation. The senior author of the study Dr. Hassan Zaraket, of the American University of Beirut in Lebanon, said that, “COVID-19 is here to stay and it will continue to cause outbreaks year-round until herd immunity is achieved. Therefore, the public will need to learn to live with it and continue practicing the best prevention measures, including wearing of masks, physical distancing, hand hygiene, and avoidance of gatherings“.
