Country’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta while responding to the Public Interest Litigation filed by four members of the LGBTQ+ community, stated that same-sex marriage was never part of the Hindu culture and is not even part of our country law. His response was against the petition filed by Abhijit Iyer Mitra, Gopi Shankar M, Gita Thadani and G Oorvasi, who claimed that the hindu law doesn’t make any distinctions between homosexual or heterosexual marriage.
With the decisions taken few years back, a huge success has been achieved in way to deliver equal rights to the LGBTQ+ community. Even though still homosexual community is being mistreated, there is discrimination towards them. But If we look at the brighter side, statistical data for the acceptance of homosexuality in country has improved. From 2002 to 2019, a huge shift has been reported in the views about homosexuality within the fellow citizens.
