Brazilian health minister Eduardo Pazuello in his recent statement said that the Covid variant identified in the Amazon could be three times more infectious than expected. He also cleared that the studies on the variant till now suggests that the currently used vaccines in the country are still beneficial to deal with it.
Talking on the ongoing second wave of the variant at the jungle city of Manaus, the minister said that even though the surge was unexpected but it is coming under control with the passing time.
The minister also stated that the country would vaccinate half of its priority population by the June 2021 and the rest by the end of the year. It is to be noted that the country has targeted to cover it is nearly half of the population through the vaccination drive. Currently Brazil is rolling out the two vaccines namely Chinese Sinovac Biotech and Britain’s AstraZeneca.
