On Wednesday, the New Orleans Saints, the star quarterback, Drew Brees faced criticism. Drew faced criticism after he considered kneeling during the National Anthem as disrespectful in protest of police brutality.
The same was said by Drews in an interview, in which he was asked as, what should be the response of N.F.L if it restarts and players resumed kneeling during the National Anthem just like Colin Kaepernick did in 2016 when he was the quarterback of the San Francisco?
He said that he would never agree with anybody in disrespecting the flag of the country. He added that, during the national anthem, he envisioned his grandfathers, who fought in WWII.
Brees has made several comments before also. In 2016, when Kaepernick was sitting at the time of national anthem. He was criticized by Brees.
But this time his comments prompt the anger, as the nation is experiencing the protest on the death of George Floyd. His death has renewed the attention of Kaepernick and his campaign.
The player’s remark was criticized even by his own team members.
LeBron James wrote on Twitter that remarks of Brees had not come as surprise. He further added that Kaepernick’s protest had absolutely “nothing to do with the disrespect of the nation’s flag and the soldiers (men and women) who keep our land free.”
