Amid raising concerns of the spreading UK variant of Covid-19 in several parts of the world, the India made COVAXIN has proved its efficacy against it. The company has made the claim by sharing a study done on 26 participants.
The vaccine developed by the joint efforts of Bharat Biotech and a government research centre (ICMR) is currently on a mass roll out under the vaccination drive within the country. Earlier this month, the vaccine along with the AstraZeneca’s COVISHILD have received the emergency use authorization by the government of India.
Another recent study published on bioRxiv has said that the vaccine developed by the US company Pfizer Inc along with its German partner BioNTech is also likely to be efficient against the highly infectious UK variant.
