The SC has decided to hear the petitions seeking amendments, on the stay of historical Jagannath Yatra in Odisha.
Initially, on 18th June, the court didn’t give permission for the same keeping in mind the present situation. The decision was taken by the three judges, the head of which was Chief Justice of India Sharad Arvind Bobde. They said that Amidst COVID -19 carrying out such a Yatra can lead to the spread of the disease. But now the court has thought of reconsidering the decision.
Now the court hearing was to be done by Justice S Ravindra Bhat today on 22 June at 11 pm.
The solicitor general Tushar Mehta requested the court to give the permission of carrying out the Yatra with just a few disciples. He said that this has been a historic tradition and it won’t be good to stop it. He added that permission should be granted to carry out the Rath Yatra with rules and regulations. He even said only a few people should be selected from the temple to attend the Yatra.
The same was favored by the Advocate Harish Salwe. The Justice Mishra who was present said that they will think over it and the final decision of carrying out Jagannath Yatra will be given by Justice S Ravindra Bhat.
