Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India’s megastar Rajinikanth for being conferred with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2019. The announcement was made by the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar earlier today.

His name was forwarded by the jury comprising of Mrs Asha Bhosle, Sri Mohanlal, Sri Biswajit Chatterjee, Sri Shankar Mahadevan and Sri Subhash Ghai. The jury members unanimously chose the name and was later finalised by the Government of India.
The 70 year old legendary actor with his influence on a humongous fan base will be awarded the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke award for his excellence in cinematic achievements throughout his professional career. The star made his debut in 1975 in ‘Apoorva Ragangal’ by K Balachander and has recently completed more than 45 years in the Tamil film industry.
His last appearance was in AR Murugadoss’s ‘Darbar’ and is currently shooting for his new film ‘Annaatthe’. Earlier the award for the 2018 was conferred to Amitabh Bachchan.
