In a major achievement, the joint venture of Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries (RIL) and British oil and gas major BP Plc has discovered Asia’s deepest offshore field in their very first gas finding.
The joint efforts of the two achieved the gas reserve at the ultra deep water gas field of the Krishna Godavari (KG) D6 basin’s R cluster. In addition to this, the venture has targeted to develop two more such deep water gas fields in the KG D6 block.
It is estimated that once all the three units gets fully functional they will be fulfilling the 15% of the India’s gas demand. Moreover, the estimated combined gas production will be about the 25% of the nation’s entire gas production as of 2023, thereby reducing the country’s dependence on imported gas.
