Covid-19

A recently concluded survey by Britain’s Office for National Statistics (ONS) has revealed that the individuals infected by the UK variant of Covid-19 are more likely to report sore throat, fatigue or coughing as symptoms, but are less likely to lose their sense of smell or taste.

The variant identified in December is considered more transmissible and might be associated with higher mortality as compared to the other variants found across the world, though data suggests the increase in death rate as an uncertainty and not yet strong.

The ONS also stated that, “Other symptoms were more common in new variant compatible positives, with the largest differences for cough, sore throat, fatigue, myalgia (muscle pain) and fever”. It added, “There is no evidence of difference in the gastrointestinal symptoms, shortness of breath or headaches”.
